"I'm not the high priest of Pop Art, just one of the workers in it." -Andy Warhol-

So What is TCOP anyway?

T.C.O.P. (The Church of Pop) is a collaborative Art collective which focuses on Popular Culture as it effects and is effected by society. Both Reflecting and being reflected by the inner workings of society in their on going two-step dance. A large part of our intent is to pay homage to the great effectors of Pop history. Through examining iconic stories of pop history we aim to realize how our personal output today becomes our input into the equation that formulates tomorrow. The artists role as a stuart of Pop Culture is integral as the artist creates the building blocks of Pop Culture. Thus to the artist we stress a sense of responsibilty toward the intended outcome of ones own creative output.

Popular Culture, a term which is often abbreviated as Pop Culture, or simply Pop, is found everywhere. Whether or not your conscious mind stresses attention toward it, you can not ignore it. You see it in objects of daily use. You admire it in daily intakes of entertainment. You become it in your day to day tasks. While it guides you, it is also a reflection of you.

According to wikipedia: Pop Culture consists of widespread cultural elements in any given society. Such elements are perpetuated through that society's vernacular language or an established lingua franca. It comprises the daily interactions, needs and desires and cultural 'moments' that make up the everyday lives of the mainstream. It can include any number of practices, including those pertaining to cooking, clothing, consumption, mass media and the many facets of entertainment such as sports and literature. Popular culture often contrasts with a more exclusive, even elitist "high culture" that is, the culture of ruling social groups.

Pop culture finds its expression in the mass circulation of items from areas such as fashion, music, sport and film. The world of pop culture has had a particular influence on art from the early 1960s on, through Pop Art. According to popeducation.org, when modern pop culture began during the early 1950's, it was harder for adults to participate. Today, most adults, their kids and grandchildren "participate" in pop culture directly or indirectly.

In short, Pop Culture is the human attention span.

What defines an Artist?

Who is an Artist? Perhaps a question more worthy of focus would be who isn’t an Artist? Any creative skill intentionally enhanced through repetition can be described as art… Amongst other things.

According to wikipedia: Traditionally the term art was used to refer to any skill or mastery, a concept which altered during the Romantic period, when art came to be seen as "a special faculty of the human mind to be classified with religion and science" Art refers to a diverse range of human activities and artifacts, and may be used to cover all or any of the arts, including music, literature, physical performance. and other forms. It is most often used to refer specifically to the visual arts, including mediums such as painting, sculpture, and printmaking. Aesthetics is the branch of philosophy which considers art.

How about the Art of good business? What is your Art?
We’ll have allot more to say on this soon…
hopefully you will too.

Till then,
Keep Rockin…
